Life if generally awesome, except when we decide we feel like complaining about stuff. Typically, when I have a friend who is struggling with something, I avoid saying things like "it could be worse" or "plenty of people have it worse than you." I don't say it because life, in addition to be awesome, is also tough. All of us have challenges, and while, yes, some are worse than others, they all can feel monumental at times. But the truth is that, despite challenges, many of which are worse than what you and I are going through right now, there are people who are going through things much worse, and still are cheerful and productive.
I want to make it clear I'm not saying this to make anyone feel guilty. I'm good enough at doing that to myself. It's essential that we understand, and frequently remind ourselves, that we can be happy and do good things no matter our circumstances. So let's do it. Focus on what you can do, and even if it's less than what you'd like to do, do it well. Compliment someone on how they look. Buy someone flowers (even if they're a guy). No one gets good mail anymore, make a card for someone. Put off the next episode of the show you're watching on Netflix and make something. Call someone. Go to the park.
I don't claim to be an expert. I don't even claim to be making a coherent, well structured argument. I do, however, want to be happy. And so I'm choosing to be. And I hope you're happy too.
